There are two ways you can choose from when coming from Cuenca. One is through highlands passing Riobamba and another one is jungle way going through Macas. On the road going through Riobamba you can stop at Alausí and visit the famous train Nariz del Diablo. This road is bit longer than the jungle way but pittoresque and worth the while.

If coming by bus, first you need to make your way to Ambato and from there take a direct bus to Tena.
